1. Madonna Axes Daughter

Looks like the Material Girl's girl will have to wait for another chance to make her big-screen debut. Madonna has cut a scene featuring her daughter, Lourdes Leon, from her upcoming flick W.E., which opens in limited release this Friday. Guess Madge is the kinda mom who has no problem saying "no" to her kids! So what was Lourdes' role, and why was it canned?

  5. The 84th Annual Academy Awards

<a class="runtimeTopic" href="#">George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Rooney Mara and—yes and no—Bridesmaids. Billy Crystal's got his marching orders--and his monologue fodder. Here are the highlights from this morning's Academy Awards nominations: As expected, heavy favorite The Artist will compete for Best Picture; however, it was Martin Scorsese's Hugo scoring the most overall nods, with 11 to The Artist's 10. No other film was in the double digits. The Artist and Hugo lead a Best Picture field that ended up with nine nominees. The other contenders: The Descendants, The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse, and from left field, the A-list-laden, but awards-season non-factor (up 'til just now) Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The Best Actor race finds pals Clooney and Pitt, up for The Descendants and Moneyball, respectively. Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Screen Actors Guild nominee Demián Bichir (A Better Life) and dark horse Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) are also nominated. The Best Actress category sets the stage for the anticipated Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) and Viola Davis (The Help) showdown. My Week With Marilyn's Michelle Williams is in the game, too, as is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's Mara. Melissa McCarthy represents for Bridesmaids in Best Supporting Actress. The comedy, passed over for Best Picture, also snagged an Original Screenplay nod for star Kristen Wiig and cowriter Annie Mumolo. The 84th Annual Academy Awards, with returning host Crystal, are set for Feb. 26.

  7. George loves on Stacy's fashion sense

You'd think George Clooney would be all into making sure his girlfriend Stacy Keibler looks good on the red carpet. Not really. But for good reason... READ: George Clooney Tackles Nazi Art Thieves in Next Project "She's got such good taste," the Oscar winner told me at the Palms Springs International Film Festival gala. Not that taste makes things that much easier. "It's so much harder for women," Clooney said. "I go in, get my tux and stick it on. She can't wear the same dress twice. You get killed if you do." Keibler laughed, "I definitely want to come back as a guy in my next life. It's so much easier." I have to tell you that Clooney actually asked me about what I was wearing! I was in a black suit with a red gingham shirt and a black-and-white bow tie. "The mixing of the plaids—that's OK?" he asked. Sure! I suggested he do the same at the Oscars. "I stick with the old-school stuff," he said. "The truth is, when you get older, you don't screw around with things. You start looking like you're trying too hard and trying to look young." True, but you look good no matter what you're wearing, Mr. Clooney! Read more: http://www.eonline.com/news/marc_malkin/george_clooney_goes_fashion_police_on/285115#ixzz1j4Og0yqv
