  2. 'Lottery Ticket'

You can probably guess that a winning ticket sets this comedy in motion, with Bow Wow playing the lucky fellow ... lucky, that is, until others become aware of his sudden windfall and want what they believe is their share.

  4. 'Roll Bounce'

Teen pictures in which kids square off in a competition form a genre unto themselves, yet the warm and wise "Roll Bounce" confounds all expectations. Writer Norman Vance Jr. and director Malcolm D. Lee dare to suggest that winning may not be everything, that a father-and-son relationship may actually be more important than a skate-off, and that it's possible to set a film in 1978 without drowning it in nostalgia and dated fads. "Roll Bounce" sports Afros and bell-bottoms yet doesn't overdo them and always has the feeling of happening in the here and now.

  10. 'Friday After Next'

The hilarious, rowdy "Friday After Next" finds its writer and co-producer Ice Cube returning as Craig, the likable if not overly responsible hero of its predecessors, "Friday" (1995), which helped launch Chris Tucker, and "Next Friday" (2000), which introduced a new sidekick, Day-Day (Mike Epps), Craig's headstrong cousin.

    TIMES STAFF WRITER
"How High" generates considerable hilarity when it turns loose rappers Method Man and Redman on an unsuspecting Harvard University. The way they get there is pretty funny in this raunchy, good-natured comedy from Universal. Written by Dustin Lee...

  16. 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse'

"Resident Evil: Apocalypse," or as the cool kids say, "RE2," plays so much like a videogame you will be reaching for a joystick. Unfortunately, there is no interactive element available other than yelling at the screen so you're left with enjoying the few glimmers of undead fun, one or two slick action set pieces and the ever-watchable Milla Jovovich.

  18. 'All About the Benjamins'

    Newsday
Applying the scruffy, slacker mood of "Friday" to a caper plot that seems downloaded from Elmore Leonard's out basket seems presumptuous at best. Yet "All About the Benjamins" shows this blend can go down more smoothly than one would have imagined....
