3. '10 Years' review: The night's not a total bust

**1/2 (out of four)
**1/2 (out of four) Talk about people with a past coming together. The perfectly OK high school reunion drama “10 Years” contains countless onscreen reunions: Channing Tatum and his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum (“Step Up”). Tatum...

5. '10 Years' a reunion worth the trip ★★★

The largely engaging class-reunion dramedy "10 Years" allows audiences to pretend they went to high school with the likes of Channing Tatum, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie and Kate Mara. But at some point, they are also going to have to pretend the film, written and directed by Jamie Linden (the screenwriter of "Dear John" and the fine "We Are Marshall"), is deeper and more essential than it actually is; there's a lot of been-there, done-that going on.

9. Film review: The movie 'John Carter' is as forgettable as the title

When the Disney folks decided to drop the last two words from the title “John Carter of Mars,” they were left with the blandest, least informative name of any big-budget film in living memory. Sure, “Shrek” and “Forrest Gump” were equally uninformative, but at least they sounded unusual. “John Carter,” on the other hand, is one iota more distinctive than (the nonexistent) Jack Smith or Jim Johnson. There's a reason Spielberg and Lucas gave Prof. Hank Jones a colorful nickname.

11. 'John Carter'

Disney had hopes of launching a movie series based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter of Mars" novels, but the box-office results and critical response may make this first effort the only entry.

13. 'John Carter' review: A slightly better mix of cowboys and aliens than "Cowboys and Aliens"

**1/2 (out of four)
**1/2 (out of four) Like that other long-haired, bare-chested hero with the initials J.C., John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) arrives just in time to calm heated alien tempers and save Mars from laser-powered destruction. OK, maybe the biblical allegory only...

15. John Carter

It’s strange that over the last week I’ve been hearing from friends that bought their Comic Con tickets or ones that got shut out while trying. It’s that crowd that has been waiting for the adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs character John Carter (would it have killed them to call the movie John Carter From Mars?). The Disney folks invested $250 million into this. Yikes.

17. Film review: Sci-fi flick 'John Carter' fails be be out-of-this world

I feel sorry for Mars. It's been at the center of so many bad movies over the past decade or so. 2000 saw a pair of immense disappointments in "Mission to Mars" and "Red Planet." There was an animated flop last year called "Mars Needs Moms." It was also the setting for the most boring parts of "Watchmen." Now it's the setting for "John Carter" a film whose box office performance is already a punchline.

23. 'John Carter': Critics not over the moon for Mars action epic

24 Frames
"John Carter": The big question raised by the new science-fantasy adventure "John Carter," based on the old pulp stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs, is whether it would bring something new to an old and influential story. For movie critics, the reactions...
