  19. Gov. Paterson Proposes Major Change for Rent Stabilized Apartments

    On Tuesday Gov. David Paterson unveiled a new proposal for rent stabilized apartments that would delay de-stabilization. Under current rules, tenants are charged incremental increases set by a board for 1 and 2 year lease renewals. Once a threshold is $2,000 is reached, and providing the occupant's annual salary doesn't exceed $175k/yr, the apartment is de-stabilized and the landlord can set the new rent at his/her discretion.
