1. Opening at Carmike: '42' is film worthy of legend

Opening Friday: 42
Opening Friday: 42 Jackie Robinson has long been an elusive presence in contemporary American cinema, as filmmakers tried and failed to bring his life story to the screen. Brian Helgeland has finally succeeded in "42," a stirring, straightforward...

3. Maybe this 'Evil' should have died

Opening today
Opening today Evil dead Relentless, pitiless, bloody and intense — that’s the remake of Sam Raimi’s “The Evil Dead.” But is this “Evil Dead” any good? Yes and no. It has several genuinely hair-raising...

5. An epic kids' rhyme from 'Hunger Games' director Gary Ross

It began as a favor. It became an obsession. It was 1996 and screenwriter Gary Ross got a call from a desperate friend. Out of time and money, director David Koepp was in frantic need of a children's story to complete his movie feature debut, "The...

7. VOD Spotlight: Joseph Gordon-Levitt finds a “Premium Rush” on the streets of NYC

Channel Guide Magazine
David Koepp, director of the film Premium Rush, wanted to create a film whose plot unfolded “more or less in real time, very compressed, but wide open in terms of space.” He found his subject matter on the streets of New York City, where...

9. Film review: Plot isn't the point in 'Premium Rush'

Early on in “Premium Rush,” our hero — Wilee (Joseph-Gordon Levitt), the fastest bike messenger in New York — is accosted by a nicely dressed but thuggish man (Michael Shannon), who identifies himself as Forrest J. Ackerman (which gives the character more hipness cred than we would have expected). “Wilee?” he asks after Wilee has given him his name. “Wile E.? Like the coyote?”

15. Premium Rush

This movie couldn’t have had better timing. Lance Armstrong was stripped of all his Tour de France wins, and star Joseph Gordon-Levitt played Robin in the latest Batman. And I can’t fault him for wanting the big paycheck in a cheesy chase film. The guy deserves it. He’s shown some great acting chops in some interesting films (see The Lookout and 500 Days of Summer).

17. 'Premium Rush' review: Ride, Joseph, ride!

*** (out of four)
*** (out of four) The makers of “Premium Rush” could have cast Bow Wow as a bike messenger and Ray Liotta as a cop, and still delivered its package, generically and according to protocol. Thankfully, this snappy little action flick from...

19. 'Premium Rush': A daredevil really delivers ★★★ 1/2

"Premium Rush" is great fun — nimble, quick, the thinking person's mindless entertainment. In the same week of "Hit & Run," which offers only meager escapism in a high-velocity realm, director and co-writer David Koepp's thriller about a bicycle messenger pedaling for his life, up and down and across Manhattan, delivers a bracing corrective. On two wheels, only! Four's for losers.
