    HSO director Carolyn Kuan (pictured), no doubt after watching too many episodes of Iron Chef, dreamed up a terrific idea: why not invite area chefs to create new dishes based on musical masterpieces? Participating area restaurants include Firebox, Max Downtown, Peppercorn's Grill, Pond House and Salute; sample Stonington sea scallops inspired by Brubeck, rosewater sabayon after Faure, a very Verdi tagliolini and two other exciting new entrees.   11. "Looped" Playing at The Bushnell Through May 12th

    When Valerie Harper announced recently she had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, it was a huge shock to the acting community. Emmy nominee Stefanie Powers (right) stepped up to fill Harper's shoes in <em>Looped</em>, Matthew Lombardo's comedy about the hard-partying Tallulah Bankhead set in a 1965 sound studio, where the intoxicated, fading star has been in summoned by an uptight editor to re-record a flubbed line. In the midst of a tragic backstory (Harper's struggle), Powers and company offer some well-needed laughs at the Bushnell until May 12.

  12. HSO Masterworks Series: "Rhapsody in Blue" Playing at The Bushnell This Weekend

    The notorious Anderson and Roe Piano Duo (Elizabeth Joy Roe and Greg Anderson, pictured) join the Hartford Symphony Orchestra for a Gershwin-fest of sorts; Roe will tackle the Gersh's <em>Rhapsody in Blue</em>, while Anderson has his way with the &quot;I Got Rhythm" Variations for Piano and Orchestra. For a piano duo, these two are pretty forward-thinking. (Their entertaining YouTube take on Astor Piazzolla's <em>Libertango</em>, for example, has been viewed over a million times.)
