  1. Eliminating Towson baseball and soccer was the right call

The elimination of the men's baseball and soccer programs at Towson State University is a tough pill to swallow ("Towson president: Cutbacks of baseball, soccer painful but necessary," March 15). It is a great disappointment to fans, the administration, friends of the university and the athletes in these two programs. Yet it is the only viable option if Towson is to comply with Title IX.

  3. Towson president says cutbacks of baseball, soccer painful but necessary [Opinion]

Recently, I announced with a heavy heart the discontinuation of men's soccer and baseball at Towson University. The decision was made after an extensive review following the initial recommendation from athletics leadership and the majority support of an independent task force charged to resolve three critical issues facing the university: long-term financial sustainability and affordability of the athletics budget; compliance with gender equity requirements of Title IX; and overall academic and athletic competitiveness of our Division I program.

  9. Towson fails to give honest answers

My alma mater made it official this past Friday: Towson University has made the despicable choice to drop the mens' soccer and baseball programs. The decision-makers had the audacity to inform the student ballplayers, their parents, and the community it was due to Title IX mandates (which basically calls for equity among the genders in our NCAA colleges and universities). Being in its off-season, the mens' soccer program was cut immediately. The baseball team will play out the remainder of its season, but many players on the team now have to make contingency plans about where to further their college baseball passion.

  11. Cut Towson's poor management

Towson University's decision to cut the baseball and soccer teams is unfortunate ("Baseball, men's soccer cut by Towson president," March 10).

  13. Towson athletic woes

So let me get this straight: The Towson University 14-man basketball team must sit out their conference tournament and won't be eligible for post-season play because the team from a couple of years ago did not meet minimum grade requirements? ("Towson all fired up with no place to go," March 10.)

  15. Towson loses a recruitment tool with cancellation of soccer, baseball

In keeping with national trends, 60 percent more women than men enroll at Towson University. Graduation rates for women versus men are similar. It wasn't that long ago that universities were tripping over themselves to increase the enrollment and graduation of women.
