Founded in 1895, the public university is located in DeKalb, Ill., with a student body of approximately 23,000. Killed were NIU students Gayle Dubowski, 20; Catalina Garcia, 20; Julianna Gehant, 32: Ryanne Mace, 19; and Daniel Parmenter, 20.
