  11. You just knew the Hungry Caterpillar wasn't going to disappoint his fans

THEATER REVIEW: "A Brown Bear, A Moon and A Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle" by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia at Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre, presented by the Chicago Children's Theatre ★★★
Celebrities generally receive applause on their first theatrical entrance — a tradition that too-cool-for-school Chicago audiences often eschew in honor of our ensemble egalitarianism. Some of us, though, are less repressed in expressing our sheer...

  13. Water Taxi firing shows perils of civic engagement

Truth be told, I don't care much about a big old rain tree in Fort Lauderdale that's stirring controversy because it might be moved — and perhaps mortally harmed — for a new condo development. If I cried for every fallen tree or lost patch of wetlands in South Florida, I'd be drowning in tears and antidepressants.

With the elimination of a little bureaucratic sediment, waterborne transportation could provide a nice lift to the economy.

  17. The Bottom Line: Time to float 'new' transport ideas

Eventually, it's going to happen. As the economy continues to grow, the United States is going to face a problem with its preferred method of moving goods throughout the country -- that is, trucking.

  19. The rebirth of Fells Point

There's a lesson to be learned in Fells Point's past and present along its main business street. South Broadway, between Aliceanna and Fleet streets, looks like a scene out of World War II Eastern Europe. On both the east and west sides of the street, the once-familiar rowhouse businesses are gutted. Steel beams support what remains, a thin brick crust of 19th-century brick facades. Stand on Broadway, and you'll see straight through to Regester or Dallas streets. But not for long.

Chicago is to have a big new entertainment venue this summer — a 70-foot-tall, 22,000-square-foot tent that will seat as many as 2,500 patrons who will be served up a variety of populist live shows, including tributes to Elton John, Michael Jackson and ABBA, and an adult-oriented circus known as "La Soiree." The tent, dubbed the Riverfront Theater, is being pitched next to the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center, 650 W. Chicago Ave.
