  9. The 'Argo' factor in this year's Oscar fest

In the week since Oscar nominations were announced, we've sat through two award shows — the Critics' Choice Awards, thrown by a group of junketeers who, according to Anne Hathaway at least, can't even spell the names of their winners right, and...

  13. The Gold Standard: Bet a penny on Day-Lewis as Lincoln?

"I am 10 years older than I was a year ago." We believe that's a line Abraham Lincoln said to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at the end of "Lincoln." Or it could be something "Lincoln" lead Daniel Day-Lewis wearily muttered during one of the endless Q&As he's done during a long campaign of an altogether different sort than the one fought for the Union. What can we say? The lines are blurring at this point, though we're still fairly confident that the great Day-Lewis will put his own stamp on history next month, becoming the first actor to win three Oscars for a lead performance. An early snapshot of the four acting races:

  17. Jessica Chastain's signature 'Zero Dark Thirty' line follows her [Video]

Daniel Day-Lewis may have been "clothed in immense power" in "Lincoln," but when it comes to memorable movie lines from the past year, it would be hard to top Jessica Chastain's forceful explanation of why she happens to be attending a particular CIA...

  19. DGA analysis: Unlike 'Apollo 13,' 'Argo' isn't coming back to earth

Those belonging to the camps of the eight movies not titled "Argo" that are competing for this year's best picture Oscar went to bed last night with one film title on their minds: "Apollo 13." Like Ben Affleck and "Argo," Ron Howard's 1995 space drama...

  23. Oscar animation race remains tightest in years

"Wreck-It Ralph's" five-trophy haul at this weekend's Annie Awards makes it a favorite of sorts in the race for the animated feature Oscar, but the category still lacks the kind of clear front-runner that we've seen the last five years. Since the...
