9. ComEd 'trailer' bill moves forward in House; override next

SPRINGFIELD -- House members voted Wednesday to adopt changes to smart grid legislation that was vetoed by Gov. Pat Quinn. The vote 91-24 is significant because it clears the way for legislators who voted against the original bill to change their votes under the compromise. The landmark legislation, which would have ratepayers paying for a massive buildout of smart grid in Illinois, could be voted on as early as today.

  11. O'Malley's slipping grades on the environment

It's less than two months into the school year, and Gov. Martin O'Malley's grades have already slipped a little. He was marked down last week to a B+ from his usual glowing environmental marks by the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, largely on one issue: his failure to slow the proliferation of waste-to-energy incinerators in the state.

  15. Blame management, not storm, for BGE outages

  17. PSC should be skeptical of Constellation-Exelon merger

If you drove around many Baltimore neighborhoods during the recent heat wave, you saw the people out on their porches. It's not because we have no air conditioning. It's because we can't afford to turn it on.

  23. The merger's green lining

The Maryland Public Service Commission's ongoing review of the proposed merger of Constellation Energy Group and Exelon Corp. has uncovered numerous pros and cons for the Baltimore-area consumer, from the loss of a corporate headquarters to the proposed one-time $100 credit on consumer bills. Much more testimony remains to be heard. But if there's one wrinkle to emerge from last week's hearings that demands a PSC response, it's this: Exelon appears interested in investing more in Maryland-based renewable power.
