3. The booming Michigan business of beer

Move over, Budweiser, Coors and Sam Adams. It's time to make (more) room for Michigan craft beers. These days, it's hard to find a bar that doesn't serve a Michigan made brew. Bell's, Founders, Arcadia, Jolly Pumpkin -- the list goes on and on. And...

  5. A newbie's guide to Chicago Craft Beer Week

How much does Chicago love its beer? Our craft beer week is 11 days long, if that's any indication. The fourth annual Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 16-26) is busier than past years, with 21 new breweries joining the lineup of tastings, tap takeovers and $4 pint nights. The schedule can seem a bit intimidating to newcomers, so we've mapped out the ultimate calendar for those looking to dip their toes into Chicago's thriving beer world. If you're planning to attend multiple events, download the free Chicago Craft Beer Week app (chibeerweek.com), which has a complete listing of the more than 400 events, plus neighborhood guides and a function that tracks your attendance, earns you points and could win you some swag at the end of the week. My advice to first-timers? Check out a bar you've never been to, drink plenty of water and clear your week of morning meetings. <a href="mailto:kbernot@tribune.com">kbernot@tribune.com | @redeyeeatdrink

  11. Lift a glass to American Craft Beer Week -- it's a busy schedule

Nearly every city or region with a flourishing craft beer scene has a <a href="http://www.craftbeer.com/news-and-events/all-beer-weeks">dedicated "beer week" on the calendar devoted to celebrating their local beer, breweries, and the people behind them -- L.A. Beer Week is celebrated in late September -- but next week the celebration goes nationwide. American Craft Beer Week runs today through Sunday, and there is a full slate of local events across Los Angeles.

  15. American Beer Classic: Microbrews meet the mainstream

For many, a beer tasting festival conjures an image of an older, largely male crowd of beer lovers, noses firmly entrenched in tulip glasses or swirling their suds in the light and remarking on their beer's particular flavors and finish. Like a group of oenophiles, except with fewer sport coats and more The Who t-shirts.

  17. Irish whiskey's growth spurt

It used to be that everything we knew about Irish beverages could be explained over an intimidatingly dark beer with a half-inch head, or a quick dram of whiskey (shot, not sipped) poured from a green-tinted bottle.
