Last Week: The story of the week in my mind involved Chief Judge Peter Weinstein issuing an executive order requiring defendants accused of residential burglary to appear before a judge rather than being able to post an automatic bond. As an elected official I can speak first hand of the damage done by residential burglars who not only violate a person's privacy, but can cause extreme damage to an individual's quality of life through fear. Police Chief Ross Licata is to be complimented for his initiative in bring this to Weinstein's attention and the judge is to be lauded for his quick action. These are two public officials who have the community's interest in mind. It's also a very positive sign that the judge has ordered a complete review of the current bonding structure.
