  1. Gentex Awarded Tax Credits, Adding 1,100 New Jobs

    With one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, there’s finally some good news for Michigan.  On Tuesday, the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) awarded nearly two-point-five million-dollars in tax breaks and incentives to Gentex Corporation in Ottawa County.  That means more than 1100 jobs will be created over the next five years, and the company is looking to fill at least 200 of those positions immediately.

    Like other neighboring states, Indiana saw an uptick in its unemployment rate in July. The preliminary seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went from 8.3 to 8.5 percent in July. The U.S. rate declined to 9.1 percent this month. Indiana continues to be significantly below the national average and that of all neighboring states for the sixth month in a row. Private sector employment decreased by 8,200 in July.
