1. 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' playing at Town Players' Little Theatre in Newtown

Brighton Beach Memoires is a Neil Simon comedy that tells the story of Eugene Jerome's coming of age in Brooklyn in 1937. He has a sexual awakening and needs to find his identity, despite the fact that there's always a family member underfoot. It's loosely based on Simon's own upbringing. The original Broadway production that ran from 1983-1986 was a huge success, featuring Matthew Broderick as Eugene, during the early days of his fame (a 2009 revival didn't do so well). This version will be presented by the Town Players of Newtown at their Little Theatre, located just off of Route 25.

  21. Pat Sajak stars in "The Odd Couple" at the Jorgensen in Storrs

Pat Sajak's (left) been a part of our lives since the heyday of "Wheel of Fortune" in the '80s. (Many of us fondly remember Martin Short's "SNL" fascination with him as well.) He's in Connecticut playing neat-freak Felix Unger against Joe Moore's (right) Oscar Madison in Connecticut Repertory Theatre's production of Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple." After the broken-hearted Felix gets tossed out by his wife, the mismatched pair (Oscar's a slob) end up living together in a single apartment, where they interact comically with four poker buddies and two British divorcees living above them. (True story: Sajak and Moore became real-life friends during a tour of duty in Vietnam.)
