1. On the Town: 'Tuesday Painters' on exhibit, a 'Wild Thing' visited Vroman's Bookstore

A watercolor class offered through Glendale's Lifetime Learning classes is standing room only with a waiting list that outstrips many of Parks and Recreation's other courses. Art instructor Peggy Reid has taught “Journey in Watercolors” at Brand Art Center for five years. With remodeling underway at Brand, the class is temporarily located at Chevy Chase Library. Two classes meet weekly on Tuesdays.

  3. Review: Blue McRight's curious sculptures bridge real and surreal

Otherness and psychic disorientation have long been fertile themes for Blue McRight, and never more so than in her newest body of work at Samuel Freeman.

  9. Go figurative: Pembroke Pines exhibit focuses on the human form

"Still Waiting," a bust by artist Judy Polstra, is covered in buttons, beads and locks, including one at the center of each breast. The head is a clock, reading 7:49. Sharon Dash also depicts the human figure, but in ceramic works. One portrays an orange-haired, blue-eyed woman from the waist up. She wears a blue sweater, and her dark-red lips are parted, perhaps in song. In the palm of her right hand is a bird, which also has orange hair. Its red beak is open and pointed upward, as though it's chirping. Hence the piece's title, "Singing Muse."

  11. On the Town: Souplantation is first up in charity 'Dine Out'

If the Souplantation didn't tickle your taste buds, the "Soup-er Bowl" at Glendale's First Baptist Church was also available this week. On Sunday (Jan. 27), the church opened the first weekend of its annual Missions Festival with plenty of soup ladled out in the church's fellowship room. Association Pastor Matt Andrews gave the blessing on the food. Pastor Charles Updike made sure the soup didn't run out. One of the first in line out of some 120 parishioners present was Glendale resident Helene Capri. She was served by Sabrina Bermudez, 16.

  19. Review: Charles Reiffel retrospective is an eye-opener

  21. Lead-content warning in Whitehall confuses motorists

Q: I am wondering if you have looked into the signs that have been posted about not breathing or disturbing the dust around the construction area of the Hokendauqua-North Catasauqua Bridge in Whitehall Township. What exactly is going to come off that bridge that is so toxic? Also, are they shutting down the Ironton Rail Trail at the bridge? I use the trail frequently for jogging or biking, but I think I'll be avoiding it now, as I wouldn't want to be inhaling anything toxic while I'm exercising!
