Can J.K. Rowling conquer TV with new BBC series?

Jk Rowling BBC Series (December 5, 2012)

This writing thing might work out after all for J.K. Rowling - the BBC wants to make a series out of her latest novel.

Rowling, the U.K. novelist who became a billionaire from the "Harry Potter" series, will have her first adult novel, "The Casual Vacancy," turned into a British series, with an expected air date in 2014.

In a statement, Rowling said: "I’m thrilled that the BBC has commissioned 'The Casual Vacancy.' I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home."

The novel, published in 2012, is set in the fictional British village of Pagford in the days after a local official dies unexpectedly on a golf course.

"Casual Vacancy" received mixed reviews and has sold nothing like the sensational "Potter" books. It was ranked No. 23 on the Amazon best-seller list as of late Tuesday.
