SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame linebacker Carlo Calabrese was charged Wednesday with one count of misdemeanor intimidation for allegedly threatening a South Bend police officer during a party bust on May 3 in South Bend.
Calabrese and Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees were both arrested at the party in the 700 block of North Notre Dame Avenue.
Calabrese, 21, is accused of saying to a South Bend officer, “my people will get you” as Rees was taken away in a police car.
Rees, meanwhile, faces two counts of resisting law enforcement, one count of battery, and one count of minor consumption of alcohol, all misdemeanors.
Both are scheduled to appear in court at 8 a.m. Thursday for their initial hearings.
Calabrese caught the attention of officers on the night of the incident when he told them that Rees was his teammate.
He then allegedly disregarded police orders to stand on the sidewalk, and got into a verbal exchange with one of the officers, asking if the officer was a Notre Dame football fan and saying he thought the officer did not like Notre Dame football based on how he was acting toward Calabrese and his teammates.
Several people attempted to calm Calabrese down, according to court documents, and began walking him back toward the house. The officer returned to his police car, but then noticed a commotion in the crowd and walked back to it.
Calabrese allegedly began yelling and pushing away from his friends, and the officer ordered Calabrese to come to him.
Calabrese allegedly said he “was done” and began to walk away from the officer at a faster pace.
The officer then grabbed Calabrese by the arm and arrested him, according to court documents.
