WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN (WPIX)—A 10-year-old boy is listed in stable condition after being wounded by a stray bullet. The shooting started around 11 p.m. Monday night in front of a store at 403 Broadway in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
Witnesses say it all started with an argument between 2 men or groups of men that escalated.
"I heard 2 gunshots. Boom boom. After that I heard wto male voices arguing, saying things like get out of here and swearing."
Other witnesses say the injured child whose name was not released had simply been walking along the street with his father when he was hit in the torso.
He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition with the gunshot wound, a victim of violence he had no part in. After undergoing surgery his condition was upgraded to stable.
Cops quickly converged on the scene searching for the shooters and any clues that might help to get them off the streets.
Detectives could be seen searching the sidewalk and street along Broadway. Folks in the neighborhood reacted to the violent gun play.
"It's scary because it's so close but I'm not so concerned about the neighborhood." said Felicia Smuts.
The police investigation is continuing.
