1. Power could be out until Sunday

As a steady rain fell on their faces, a nine-man crew from Kentucky stood on bucket trucks, clearing branches and replacing power lines on Route 611 in Tannersville, a usually bustling area near a Poconos outlet mall that stood vacant Tuesday afternoon.

3. In Sandy's aftermath, Valley residents grapple with outages, downed trees, blocked roads

Roy Nimmo has lived long enough to keep things in perspective.
Roy Nimmo has lived long enough to keep things in perspective. He built his Williams Township home in 1948, after World War II, and spent his first two years there hauling his own water. In the great flood of 1955, the creek behind his house overflowed...

5. Lehigh Valley prepares for powder keg dubbed 'Frankenstorm'

Predictions for the hybrid storm bearing down on the Northeast keep worsening and the tone of the coverage is growing ever more strident, so it's no wonder the phone at Ice Cream World has been ringing off the hook.

11. Post-hurricane question: Do we really need traffic signals?

Q: Regarding your observation that traffic seemed to be flowing smoothly through the intersection of 19th and Tilghman streets in Allentown when the traffic signals had no power, I've noticed the same thing. At your request, I continued to check, and had no issues for an entire week going through there with temporary stop signs posted. As long as you don't have some rude motorist to deal with, the only complication at this intersection is the turning lanes, and even that runs smoothly as long as everyone plays nice. Four stop signs might work well there permanently.

13. 'Village' signs: A sign of times past?

Q: I've been trying for some time to find the answer to what constitutes a "village." PennDOT has signs identifying locations as being "Village of Scherersville," "Village of Kuhnsville," etc. I'm comfortable in assuming PennDOT has some rules about how a...

15. Is Easton becoming the Valley's dining hot spot?

When Josh Palmer opened his restaurant, Sette Luna, in Easton's historic district seven years ago, he had a good feeling about the struggling city's revitalization efforts. Today, he's even more confident. His urban Tuscan trattoria at 219 Ferry St. is still going strong.

17. Let the grocery wars begin

Let's face it, there's nothing like a good grocery war to bring down prices. It often happens when grocers within close proximity of each other are in direct competition to win your patronage.

21. American Parkway could rev up Allentown revival
