Help isn't on way
The ship is sinking, and no one seems to be feeling much urgency to save it. Oh, Dale Sveum and his bosses with the Cubs would like more victories. But management isn't going to throw anyone a lifeline, not with so little to gain with a move toward the...

Campana really can get jump on opposition
HOUSTON — On the day after Tony Campana proved he can soar above certain tags, he and his Cubs teammates still were smiling about the crazy play in Tuesday night's 2-1 loss. Campana had dived back to first base when a pickoff throw from Wilton...

Cubs cautious with Rizzo
HOUSTON — The Cubs aren't looking at Anthony Rizzo as an immediate consideration even though he continues to crush Triple-A pitching. The lack of urgency in giving Rizzo a big-league opportunity comes with the Cubs in an eight-game losing streak...Tags: Minor League Baseball, Sports, Trials, Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field

Cubs offense AWOL again
HOUSTON — Travis Wood deserved better. Making his first start since replacing Chris Volstad in the Cubs' rotation, the left-hander demonstrated why Theo Epstein wanted him from the Reds in the Sean Marshall trade. He pitched well and competed...Tags: Matt Downs, Tony Campana, Carlos Lee, Cincinnati Reds, Starlin Castro

Summer celebrity spotting about to heat up
Now is when Chicago’s celebrity scene gets interesting. Some of the biggest names in entertainment and sports will soon visit our city on vacation (NBA stars especially like to do this) or because they live here part-time (you can count on plenty...

Sorry, Cubs fans, no Rizzo for you
As much as the Cubs’ lineup needs a jolt, I’m all for the long-term benefits of leaving Anthony Rizzo in the minors until the team ensures maximum control of his arbitration rights. Rebuilding is painful, and the Cubs’ offense is a...

Cubs' Travis Wood will try not to press this time
HOUSTON — Left-hander Travis Wood blames his horrible spring training on pressing too hard to try to impress Theo Epstein, Dale Sveum and anyone who recommended the Cubs trade for him. He hopes he can relax a little on the mound Tuesday, and his...

Cubs lose 7th straight game
HOUSTON — Forget about a win. What does a team have to do to get a lead? With Matt Garza turning in his worst start in the National League, it probably wouldn't have mattered if Tony Campana had scored after stealing second and third base in the...

Trade bait: Some Sox, Cubs could be playing their way out of town
Believe it or not, the deck might be stacked in favor of Chicago's baseball teams this season. Just not in the way most would prefer. When you're in rebuilding mode, as the Cubs and White Sox are, contending teams come to you when they need to fortify...

Time for Cubs to summon Rizzo
OK, Theo, what are you waiting for? With 91-degree temperatures and southwesterly winds turning Wrigley Field into a hitter's delight, the Cubs staged a 2-hour, 57-minute argument for Anthony Rizzo on Sunday. The 6-0 loss to Jake Peavy and the White Sox...

Tests ahead before Cubs, Sox meet again
Until they gather for Round 2 on the South Side June 18-20, the Cubs and White Sox have busy, perhaps make-or-break, schedules. By then both teams could have new faces, with the Cubs likely to add top prospect Anthony Rizzo to help in American League...
