Born Dec. 30, 1976, in New York, he debuted in the majors in 1998 with the Minnesota Twins but didn't establish himself as a starter until 2001. He stayed with the Twins until he was traded to the San Francisco Giants for the 2004 season. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 2005. That season, he hit a career-low .257 average but with a career-high 18 home runs, helping the White Sox roll through the playoffs and sweep the Houston Astros in the World Series. Entering 2008, he has hit at least 10 homers in the past five seasons.
In 2006, he became part of Windy City Series lore when he was punched by Cubs catcher Michael Barrett after scoring a run. Barrett was suspended, but Pierzynski received only a fine.
