  1. Don't play into a paranoid conservative narrative

Are Roman Catholics, evangelical Christians and “ultra-Orthodox” Jews religious extremists comparable to the Ku Klux Klan and Al Qaeda? Yes, according to a PowerPoint slide that was apparently used by the U.S. Army Reserve in a training program. The briefing materials, which seem to have been discarded a year ago, have prompted complaints by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services and the conservative Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty.

  11. A Catholic homecoming

As the queen mother of megachurches, Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington has become a refuge for spiritual seekers and people of faith who no longer feel inspired by the religious institutions that raised them. After the sex abuse scandal that rocked the Roman Catholic Church, droves of Catholics found their way to the undecorated sanctuary and fresh air of Willow Creek. Author Chris Haw probably passed them going the opposite direction.

  17. Tebow wars: Give it a rest

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is an evangelical Christian. He is devoted to his faith in a very public way, and that, as much as his perplexing play on the football field, has made him a cultural lightning rod. The wise heads of football insisted before this season that he is not actually much of a quarterback, that he had a weak, inaccurate arm and a devotion to a style of play that works in college (where he was a star for the University of Florida) but not in the NFL. But his base of fans, seemingly devoted to him primarily because of his religion and only secondarily because of his play on the field, were vocal in demanding he get his chance. And he did, leading the once woeful Broncos to the playoffs on the back of one improbable fourth-quarter comeback after another.
