William Allen is a major historical figure in Pennsylvania who is known for several accomplishments including Mayor of Philadelphia, Cheif Justice of Pennsylvania, founder of Allentown, and establishing the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. Allen was born in Philadelphia and was mayor of the city of Philadelphia by age 31. her served as Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court at 46 and established a legacy in the Lehigh Valley, finding the city of Allentown, Lehigh County, at age 58 in 1962. The city named one of the state's largest educational facilities after him -- William Allen High School -- in his honor.  Show more »
