The annual Emmet County 4-H Spring Achievement Days took place Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, at the Emmet County Fairgrounds community center. The event is designed as an opportunity for the county's 4-H members to exhibit their winter projects, experience interview type evaluations and be awarded summer trip scholarships.

This year, more than 275 projects were exhibited and evaluated, representing multiple project areas. Included were: personal appearance, visual arts and crafts, needle crafts, pottery, metal work, woodworking, livestock (beef, sheep, swine), rabbits, poultry, dogs, horses, junior leadership, veterinary science projects and record keeping.

During the weekend event, 4-H members met with project area evaluators and, through an interview process, ribbons were awarded and scholarship winners selected. On Friday, personal appearance projects were evaluated and on Saturday morning members involved in livestock, horse, small animals, dogs, crafts and junior leadership projects were evaluated.

Clubs were also busy on Saturday setting up their club exhibits. The club with the most creative display received a gift certificate for 4-H products from the National 4-H Supply Service Catalog. The award is sponsored by the Emmet County 4-H Council and was awarded to the Magic Needles Sewing Club for their "Serving Up Responsibility" club display.

On Saturday evening, an awards program took place and was attended by 4-H members, leaders and families. The 4-H'ers involved in personal appearance clubs participated in a fashion revue and style show, with modeling coordinator, Jan Jarvis, assisting. Flower awards were presented to the top scoring models in each of the four age divisions. The winners were selected on the basis of their modeling ability, fit, poise, grooming and choice of accessories. Fashion revue judges were Ann Duran and Mary Pasternak.
