A Hagerstown man who was found to have a loaded gun after fleeing from Hagerstown police Saturday morning had his bail raised from $7,500 to $35,000 following a bond review this week in Washington County District Court.
Shamel Devontae Shavuo, 20, of 533 N. Mulberry St., is charged with carrying a handgun and second-degree assault, court records said. District Judge Dana Moylan Wright expressed concern over Shavuo allegedly carrying a loaded handgun in making her decision to raise his bond during Monday’s hearing.
The officer called for backup and the two officers approached the group, at which time one of them fled, the charging document said. After a foot chase the man, identified as Shavuo, tripped and was grabbed by one officer, the document said.
A scuffle ensued and the officer held Shavuo until other officers arrived, the charging document said. Shavuo then admitted he was carrying a handgun, which was found in his pant leg, the document alleged.
The .380-caliber Taurus was loaded, and there was a round in the chamber, the charging document said.
