  5. Aldean Offers Opening Act Opportunity In Reality Show

<span style=&quot;font-size: small;">Jason Aldean has been tapped to participate in a new E! reality singing contest that premieres July 9th on the network. Opening Act is the brainchild of American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe. In the show, producers will scour the internet for emerging artists and give them a chance to open for big-time acts like Jason, who says the opportunity is priceless for a new artist. &ldquo; What it does, I mean especially for a new artist, it gives you a platform to launch your career. You know, you&rsquo;re able to go in and play for more people in one night than you would play to in six months on your own, so it&rsquo;s a big deal.&rdquo; Other singers reportedly involved in Opening Act include Rod Stewart, Nicki Minaj and LMFAO to name a few. Jason&rsquo;s first gig as an opening act on a major tour was with Rascal Flatts on their 2006 Me &amp; My Gang tour.</span>

  17. Steven Tyler National Anthem: Star Sings At AFC Championship Game

<a class=&quot;runtimeTopic" href="#">Steven Tyler</a> sang the National Anthem at Sunday's AFC Championship game. It probably wasn't his best work. The Aerosmith frontman struggled a bit throughout his pre-game rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," singing with a raspier-than-normal voice through Francis Scott Key's iconic patriotic tune. He had trouble hitting the signature high note, which is a far cry from his heralded days leading one of the biggest bands of the 70s and 80s. As a judge on "American Idol," who decides if singers have the chops to make it big, the performance probably won't do him any favors when it comes to handing down the fate of aspiring artists. The rendition didn't hurt his hometown team, though; the New England Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl with a 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

  19. 'American Idol': Hot nights in Georgia

American Idolkicked off its 11th season Wednesday in Southern style. And the year's first audition show, shot in Savannah, Ga., had enough characters to populate a Tennessee Williams play. There was Amy Brumfield, a 24-year-old from Gatlinburg, Tenn., who lives in a tent. Gabi Carrubba, a 16-year-old tap-dancing champion. NBA dancer Brittany Kerr. Eric Nowak from Buffalo, N.Y., convinced that Steven Tyler is her future ex-husband. Shaun Kraisman, who's convinced he's Ryan Seacrest -- and a good enough mimic to convince just about everybody else. (Fine, let Ryan go to the Today show.) And there's diminutive 17-year-old David Leathers Jr., better known to his friends as Mr. Steal Your Girl, who actually competed in a singing contest with Scotty McCreery two years ago. David hinted that he beat Scotty that night, but I'm not sure I believe him, good as his Michael Jackson-like versions of Remember the Rain and Never Can Say Goodbye were. Who will people still be talking about once the Hollywood rounds hit? Maybe Shannon Magrane, the 15-year-old daughter of former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Magrane. Maybe Schyler and Colton Dixon, who returned from last season -- though the judges had to drag 19-year-old Colton, who barely missed out on the semifinals last season, back into the mix against his will. But they'll definitely remember Phillip Phillips, a Georgia boy, named after his daddy, who has a country-fried accent and sings Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson like you wouldn't believe. All in all, 42 contestants from Savannah got golden tickets. And the ones we saw showed a lot of promise.

  21. McCreery Sings Anthem for World Series Start

<span style=&quot;font-size: small;">American Idol winner Scotty McCreery is set to perform the national anthem at Game One of the 2011 World Series tonight. The event is special for Scotty because it combines his two loves &ndash; music and baseball. At home, Scotty tries to stay calm while watching the games, but he has been known to raise his voice. &ldquo;I mean, if somebody does a play that&rsquo;s just nuts, then yeah, I might yell at the TV or something like you can actually hear me on the other side of the screen or something. But, for the most I just kind of lay low, have my chips and dip and watch the game.&rdquo; Game One of the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers airs tonight on FOX beginning at 7:30PM Eastern. Scotty is a Red Sox fan, according to MLB.com. But, he&rsquo;s also been known to root for the Atlanta Braves.</span>

  23. McCreery's Story to Air

<span style=&quot;font-size: small;">A film crew followed &lsquo;American Idol&rsquo; winner Scotty McCreery around when he returned home to small town Garner, N.C. last month to perform. That&rsquo;s because the singer will be the subject of a documentary set to air on GAC in October. According to the News Observer, McCreery played Raleigh&rsquo;s RBC Center on July 27, where the crew interviewed him for &lsquo;Introducing: Scotty McCreery,&rsquo; a biographical series about on-the-rise country stars (which McCreery undoubtedly is). The crew also toured the &lsquo;I Love You This Big&rsquo; singer&rsquo;s hometown the next day.</span>
