1. The Eagles Don't Like TV Talent Shows

<span style="font-size: small;">The Eagles don’t have very many nice things to say about TV singing competitions like American Idol and X Factor. During a UK press conference for their documentary History of the Eagles, the guys were asked what they thought of those shows and they are apparently not fans. Glenn Frey admits to watching them out of some sort of “morbid curiosity” but criticized contestants who “over sing” everything. Explained Frey, “The nature of these shows is such that they make everybody want to be big and big for the camera and big for the audience and you know, for myself I would just as soon somebody just stood there and sing the damn song.” Don Henley added, “yeah, they’ve turned it into Glee.” Joe Walsh has a completely different issue with such shows, explaining, “they just leaked what those poor kids have to sign and basically they don’t stand a chance.” In other Eagles news, the band is getting ready for another tour, which kicks off in Louisville, Kentucky July 6th, and has hinted that it may be their last time on the road. ”We’re about to begin rehearsals next month for our world tour,” said Glenn Frey. “I don’t want to say it’s our last world tour, but it very well could be. That’s the only immediate plan.”

  5. Henley Says Eagles Were Just Lucky

<span style="font-size: small;">Eagles co-founder Don Henley believes some of the band’s success was down to “dumb luck” – and they’re aware how rare it is to have enjoyed two rounds of big-time glory. They split in 1980 then returned 14 years later to enjoy as much acclaim as they had during the 70s. Speaking at the premiere of their documentary, History Of The Eagles Part One, Henley admits it’s a rare achievement. He tells Rolling Stone: “We fully realize how fortunate we are. We don’t take credit for all that – some of it is just dumb luck. Some of it is being in the right place at the right time; coming into contact with the right people, the right managers, attorneys, crew members, producers. There are a whole lot of people involved in this other than us. “We were fortunate enough to have one of the rarest things in American life: a second act. We broke up for 14 years and came back, and we were bigger than ever. We still pack arenas and stadiums 42 years on.” Henley says the aim of the three-year movie project was to offer “an honest look at who we are and what the group is.” He believes some fans will be surprised to learn the extent to which the Eagles is a business. And he admits he learned a little about himself as he watched the film. “Some of it was painful,” he reflects. “The self-destructive behaviour that a lot of young people go through. The insecurities, the fear, the feelings of unworthiness, ‘we don’t deserve this,’ and the feeling it’s all going to disappear up in smoke tomorrow. “Of course, the substance abuse was part of that; and how much time was wasted that could have been more productive. But it was all a learning experience that made us the people we are today. Nobody in this band has died.”

  7. Eagles Documentary Dispels Myths Surrounding Band

<span style="font-size: small;">Producers of the forthcoming Eagles documentary History of the Eagles, Part 1 (Part 2 is also completed) promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about complicated dynamics within the band. Director Alison Ellwood told Billboard, “Part one is from when the band begins til its breakup. There’s quite a bit of Joe (Walsh) in Part 2. It’s almost the crux of the film.” Producer Alex Gibney says of the band members’ participation, “They were very forthcoming and quite honest about the harder times they had together, but there’s another issue because they didn’t do much press in the 1970s. It’s really a myth that they fought all the time.” Part 1 will eventually be out as a two-disc DVD, with Part 2 to follow.
