1. Remembering Scott Pace

I first met Scott Pace in 1990 when he and his brother, Rick, came to a Brawley basketball camp. The brothers had fun learning about basketball, coach John Wooden and the Pyramid of Success. From then until his death, I remained close to the boys and...

  5. IHSAA Basketball Town Hall Meeting in Milan brings back many fond memories

Tuesday's visit to Milan was easily the most anticipated of the 11 scheduled stops on the IHSAA Town Hall tour. After all, the 1954 State Championship won by Milan is often referred to as a reason Indiana had the greatest basketball tournament in the country. That victory by Indians over Muncie Central was the stuff that legends are made of. Bobby Plump is one of the most recognizable figures in Indiana Basketball history thanks to one game-winning shot.

  9. Patt Morrison Asks: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -- still hooked

Only his number is retired — 33, in the Lakers' purple and gold that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wore to glory on the basketball court. The rest of him is still working away, most recently on his latest book. At UCLA, in blue and gold, Abdul-Jabbar was a...

  11. Calipari and Pitino aren't the only big-name coaches to feud

The sniping between Kentucky’s John Calipari and Louisville’s Rick Pitino has been put on hold this week, much to the disappointment of the fan bases of their respective teams and the media assembled for the Final Four in New Orleans.

  15. Maryland at Johns Hopkins: Three things to watch

The 108th meeting in a series that dates back to 1895 should be an intriguing affair. Both teams bounced back from disappointing losses from the previous week. No. 10 Maryland (6-3) walloped No. 20 Navy, 13-6, April 6 after dropping a 12-8 decision to No. 1 Virginia. No. 5 Johns Hopkins (9-1) thrashed Albany, 17-6, April 5 after getting shocked 13-9 by No. 4 North Carolina. The host Blue Jays have won 10 of the last 13 contests between these sides. Here are a few factors that could play a role in the outcome at Homewood Field in Baltimore Saturday evening.

  19. Assistant giving UCI mental edge

To paraphrase one of Yogi Berra's incisive gems, 90% of sports is half mental. Now while the mathematics of this assertion are clearly open to question, UC Irvine men's volleyball coach John Speraw has long believed that the mental side of his game has been undervalued.
