Mobridge: Funeral services for John Liebelt, 80, of Mobridge will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge, with Pastor Pat Hahn officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home in Mobridge.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday at Stout Family Funeral Home in Mobridge, with comfort services at 8 p.m.

John passed away at his home in Mobridge on Thursday, July 12, 2012.

John Edward Liebelt was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Isabel to Edward and Leah (Fuehrer) Liebelt. In 1941, the family moved to rural Herreid, where John attended Herreid school. The family later moved to Mobridge, where John finished his senior year of high school. John worked for Delux Cleaners for awhile and then went to California, where he worked for General Motors until Uncle Sam called him into the Army in 1952.

In 1955, John and Shirley Likeness were married and moved to Huron. To this union, one daughter was born, Kim. In the early 1960s, they moved back to Mobridge, where he bought the Culligan Soft Water business and also farmed and ranched. His wife, Shirley, passed away after a long battle with cancer in November 1992.

John was very active in the Rodeo Association, American Legion, Moose Lodge and the Mobridge Northwest Development Corporation. He also loved to show horses. Wrestling was John's favorite sport, and he followed the local team faithfully. He was also a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Feb. 14, 1994, John married Bert Goehring, retired from farming and moved to Mobridge, where he resided until his passing.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Roberta “Bert” Liebelt; six stepchildren: Terry (Vanessa) Goehring, Larry (Susan) Goehring, Ronnie Goehring, Laurie (Tom) Brandner, Susan (James) Aman and Troy (Amy) Goehring; 15 stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren; daughter, Kim (Dave) Lewis; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; sisters: Bertha (Vernon) LongHenry, Leila Popp and Karen Zakaki; along with special friends: Marcia Berg and Vicki VanderMay.

John was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Liebelt; parents, Edward and Leah Liebelt; and brothers: Ervin, Edgar, Henry, Jake and Calvin Liebelt.
