For the fifth straight time this series, the team that scored first won. Nashville's David Legwand stole the puck from Detroit defenseman Kyle Quincey behind the net and quickly passed the puck to Alex Radulov who easily beat Jimmy Howard to give Nashville a 1-0 lead with 3:50 to go in the first period.
Detroit tied the game in the second period. Henrik Zetterberg threw the puck toward the front of the net from the side boards and Jiri Hudler crashed the net to tip the puck in past Pekka Rinne to tie the game at one at the 13:45 mark.
But just 13 seconds into the third period, Nashville retook the lead. Alex Radulov charged into the Red Wings zone and Nick Kronwall knocked the puck off his stick. David Legwand was trailing the play and quickly picked up the puck in the slot and beat Howard high stick side to give Nashville a 2-1 lead.
Pekka Rinne made it stand, stopping all eight shots in the third period. Rinne stopped 21 of 22 total Red Wings shots. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves on 25 Nashville shots.
