SALTON CITY - A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and other charges in connection with the discovery of two pipe bombs found at a location in Treadwell Boulevard, records show.

The suspect, identified by records at the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office as Mark Jones, was detained Thursday following a 3:19 p.m. call that required a bomb squad be sent to a home in the 2700 block of Treadwell Boulevard.

No one was hurt during the incident where U.S. Border Patrol agents were sent from the Highway 86 checkpoint to provide assistance, according to a log entry at the sheriff’s office.

In addition to the threats charge, Jones was arrested and booked at the county jail on suspicion of possessing explosives, officials said. Jones’ bail was set at $25,000.

Woman arrested

HOLTVILLE - A woman, identified in a sheriff’s log entry as 41-year-old Krystal Charlene Armenta, was arrested Friday on a $10,000 warrant for resisting arrest and impersonating someone.

The 11:56 a.m. arrest occurred in the 800 block of Fern Avenue, according to the log entry.

Armenta was also arrested on a no bail parole violation, the entry read.

Vehicle in canal reported

WINTERHAVEN - Authorities received a 11:56 p.m. call Thursday about a traffic collision involving a taxi cab that went into a ditch.

The call was received from a location in the 500 block of First Avenue. There were no injuries or damage reported.

Narcotics seized

SALTON CITY - Heroin and methamphetamine were seized this week by authorities during a vehicle check at the Highway 86 checkpoint, officials said.

An unidentified U.S. citizen was arrested Wednesday in connection with the discovery of three pounds of heroin and five pounds of methamphetamine, a press statement read.

The illegal narcotics carried an estimated worth of $259,000. The drugs were found in an engine compartment of a Chevrolet pick-up truck, the statement reported.

U.S. Border Patrol agents were alerted to the truck by a trained drug-sniffing dog, the statement read.
