BRAWLEY — Concerned community members crowded the intersection of B Street and North Eastern Avenue here Thursday night, following the shooting death of 42-year-old Albert Ramos.
The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. with Brawley police officers responding to the area to discover the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a press release by the Brawley Police Department.
Emergency medical service personnel responded; Ramos was pronounced dead on the scene.
Imperial County Deputy Coroner Rodolfo Barron has scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday.
The alleged gunman was identified by Brawley police officials as Francisco Javier Solorio, 39, of Brawley, according to the press release.
Solorio was taken into custody without incident and was later booked into the Imperial County Jail on suspicion of murder. Brawley police were also able to locate the weapon believed to have been used during the incident, according to the release.
Westmorland and Calipatria police, as well as Sheriff’s Office deputies, assisted in securing the perimeter of the scene and crowd control.
Waiting in the crowd with family members and friends near the scene Thursday night, Herman Cornejo, who claimed to be the victim’s uncle, mentioned that both parties were neighbors and that they had been involved in disputes with one another prior to Thursday’s incident.
Brawley police have not confirmed Cornejo’s suspicions, as they are still currently investigating the homicide.
