The Howard Whittemore Memorial Library of 1894, named after a son of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100205140000" title="Naugatuck" href="/topic/us/connecticut/new-haven-county/naugatuck-PLGEO100100205140000.topic">Naugatuck</a> industrialist and philanthropist John H. Whittemore, was designed by McKim, Mead & White, considered the premier architectural firm at the time.
